I received the following post from one of our new readers, Emily:
“Cute blog!! I’m just wondering if the spelling of “divine” is something “inside” that I’m not getting…at first, I thought it might be the blog owner’s last name, spelled as it is on the blog, but her name is something completely different. Just wondering.
”
When I posted my reply to her she wrote back suggesting that I tell everyone the back story. So here it is:
Yes, “Devine” has a kind of inside story. . . My nieces and nephews (pictured in the Hall(way) of Fame post) call me DeDe. So I imbedded my nickname into the business name ;o) DEvine DEsigns.
I selected that business name because I do believe that my talents are on loan from God and my name, Diana, (starts with a D) and with just a small change in the spelling I could give a little nod to the kids who think their DeDe is a famous designer because I’ve been in magazines and newspapers. One of my nephews even asked me if when I go out people follow me, like on TV!! Too funny.
While I’m at it, I’ll also confess that the illustration of me on my blog header shows me in a hat because I almost always wear one – ask my clients! One of them had a hard time recognizing me when I showed up without it! I have had a new header illustration desiged for each season – the next one will premiere in the fall.)
I have lost count of how many hats I own and in the new closet in the master I’ve designed, I’m having a special place to showcase the hats of the season. (The new closet from Closet Factory, is being installed THIS week! Can’t wait and neither can my husband!)
I love the romance of hats and am pretty sure I’m spreading the love. I was the only lady at church wearing a hat but then Miss Rosemary, who’s in her 80’s bless her heart, got inspired and now she wears one to church just about every
Sunday!
This is the full illustration – shows me out shopping – I tell people I’m a professional shopper since I’m always shopping for clients!! (BTW, I am working on getting back the body in the illustration, though I’ll never have the legs at just 5′2″!)
Lastly, my license plates are “D DSIGNS” on my business truck which you’ll see out and about here on the North Coast. Does it stand for Devine Designs or Diana Designs ? That’s why I picked it – covers both bases. You’ll often see it parked at Lowes, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Big Lots, etc.
So now, as Paul Harvey used to say, “You know the rest of the story!”

Thanks for all the details.. I can attest to the kids asking you if you got followed around by paparazzi!!! I was there to hear it and almost fell off my chair laughing. They are very very proud that you are a designer and in so many magazines etc…even if you’re not being followed by cameras everywhere they love their De De aka Ms. DEvine DEsigns!! LOL!!
