I’m working on creating decorations for a friend’s baby shower. It’s her first and very special because doctors told her five years ago she would never have children after battling cervical cancer at age 23.
Doctors don’t know everything – God had other plans – she’s due in December!
I asked if I could do the decorations {actually, I kinda begged}. I’ve been inspired by all things Amy Atlas and wanted a chance to create something very special and beautiful for the momma-to-be and her miracle baby boy.
The shower is October 17 and being held at our church in Fellowship Hall. While the room is large, it’s very institutional looking & feeling so I have my work cut our for me. If you look at the “eye candy” section of Amy’s website, you can see my inspiration. {Of course, my version will be Amy Atlas on an extreme budget!}
While I can’t show you all the things I’m working on {stay tuned – I’ll post after the shower}, the photo above shows our favors: custom wrapped chocolate bars. I can’t believe how hard it was to find bars that were wrapped in foil and then had the individual wrappers around them! I finally did find them at Marc’s for 99 cents each.
I have seen this idea in several of Amy Atlas’ tablescapes and thought “I could do that.” So this is my chance! I had a
graphic artist friend create a custom label shape for me and the rest of the label and wrapper I designed in PowerPoint.
Because we didn’t want the traditional pastel blues, greens and yellows, the color theme for the baby shower is apple green, black, and white. Our theme is “Sweet Baby”.
Taking my cue from Amy {see photo above right} I designed three different candy wrappers: double stripe lines, dotted lines & a stork with bundle (free clip art from MS Word online.)
I downloaded the fonts I used free from an online site and bought glossy laser printer paper at Office Max.
Just as decorating is important in our homes when trying to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, it’s just as important {if not more so} at special events like showers. Hopefully all our planning and preparing will help make the shower a magical time!

Love the chocolate bar idea, and also the color palette you chose. What a great friend you are to throw her shower for her. Can’t wait to see the pics!
Hey Stephanie,
I’m not actually throwing the shower – just doing all the decorations. She’s the preacher’s daughter and since every event seems to always be held in fellowship hall, I think she was not that thrilled – same old, same old you know. Hopefully my Amy Atlas-inspired decor will transform the space as much as my very small wallet can afford. ;o)
Candy bars are great. Love it.
