Here are more snaps from my tour of the Dahlonega Idea House:
This wall of windows is actually a clever hide-a-wall pocket door. With a push of a button the middle doors slide open and then along with the side doors they disappear into the wall. It is a clever idea and handy for entertaining [BUT the reality is that in this part of the country BUGS are a fact of life most of the warm months of the year, so, love this idea as long as you don't mind bugs ;o)]

This is the hall between the kitchen and the laundry room. Interesting how they transitioned from black molding to white throughout the rest of the house. See how the black molding around the entry of the mud area is right next to the white molding going into the laundry room (opening on the left wall).
The designer of this house is 29-year old Mallory Mathinson.
This is one of many outdoor living spaces in this year’s house. I love the punches of color and pattern.

And how about this two-tiered sofa table? Seriously, we could make one our selves! Build a box base and then pop a couple of tag sale coffee tables on top of each other, securing the bottom one to the base with screws into the legs and then doing the same with the top one. Paint with a fun color and voila!
On the front porch entry wall they had this neat idea – in the photo (above left) you see a faux window. They trimmed this out – shutter dogs and all – but there is no window “behind” the shutters – just siding. Great idea if you have a large blank area on the outside of your house.
I have even seen people trim mirrors to look like a window and then hang that on an exterior wall. It really looks like a window when flanked by shutters!

Here’s the bedroom/playroom combination located in the lower level. That’s my sweet niece Maddie who must have said “I’m in heaven” about 15 times while touring the house.
The pattern on the canopy and curtains is a stylized Native American print. Notice the horizontal stripes on the walls? They are acutally “battens” that you would typically see running vertically.
Lastly, here’s an idea for “what to do on a stair wall.”
I’m so glad I got to go on a tour of an Idea House this year. Have any of you been to others this year or in the past? The only other one I went on was a number of years ago when one was in Athens, Georgia.
You can see pictures and go on virtual tours of many of the rooms of the Dahlonega house at this link. FYI: The pictures make the rooms look much bigger than they acutally are.

Very nice house.. glad you found it. The girls really enjoyed touring it. I would say the best parts were the outdoor on the main level and the Master bedroom/bath!! Loved the colors super nice!!
Also love the coffee table idea where it is one on top of the other. Something to look for in my garage sales.
