Sassy & So Not Your Grandma’s Apron!

blue green apron 159x300 Sassy & So Not Your Grandmas Apron!Last Saturday when we had the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at church the ladies were responsible for making and serving breakfast to the men – you know they loved that! I mentioned to one of the girls that I was going to wear one of my aprons, yes you read right, an apron.

I love aprons and am so glad they are coming back into vogue! I have several that I love and some of my favorites are from the  Sassy Chef!  I “discovered” these aprons because a good friend of mine in San Diego makes them!

They are like works of art and it took me months to actually wear one while I was cooking & cleaning. The blue/green little number (above  left) is Bahama Breeze ~ I just love the attitude and flirtiness. They are SO not our grandma’s aprons! apron half 300x289 Sassy & So Not Your Grandmas Apron! I also like that they really are SASSY – they are not just a new old-looking traditional apron like I found online at many sites.

I like to color coordinate mine with either the kitchen or to the event. Lisa at the Sassy Chef makes both full and half aprons along with plus sizes and coordinating kid versions. LOVE that!

Wearing an apron while I’m cooking or cleaning makes me feel kind of  “official,”  like I’m a professional chef, home maker, & wife. My husband knows when I’m in an apron I mean business. ;o) I still have to make a concerted effort to put on my aprons while working and cooking - because they seem “too beautiful to wear”. Sometimes I think I should just hang them like works of art!

The sad thing about many of the custom aprons I’m finding online is that when they sell out of a style, they’re gone! So, I apply the “buy it when you see one you like” which I also use when shopping for things for the house or, for that matter, for clients. Too often I have passed up on an item because I’m just not sure, only to go back hours or days later to find it gone ;o(

The other bummer about some of these “designer” aprons is that they cost upwards of  $200.00! I loved this one from Haute Hostess Aprons but there was no way I was paying that kind of money for an apron (no matter how lovely it is!)

I do like these halter aprons from Heavenly Hostess too – they have a fun collection of accessories like towels and coordinating headbands! How heavenly is that?? I also like their motto to “serve with grace.”

Last year I bought this linen and vintage lace apron from Bee Bops Party Wear  – my mother in law wore it to fry up bacon when they came to visit in May! I’ve got to say that I felt very good about handing her an apron when she asked if I had any. ;o)

Both Sassy Chef aprons & Heavenly Hostess products come cleverly packaged which makes them great for gifts. Really – what better gift could you give a girl friend, sister or friend?

I’m not trying to sound like a commercial, I just love about anything that make the chores of cook and cleaning F-U-N!

For me, wearing an apron while doing the chores is kinda like whistling while I work – somehow it just adjusts my attitude.

So now I’m wondering – do you do/wear/have anything special that helps make cleaning & cooking seem less like a chore?  Talk amongst yourselves! ;o)

Sadly I don’t do/wear/have anything special that makes cooking and cleaning seem like less of a chore, but NOW I WILL!!! OMG! I LOVE the Bahama Breeze apron! Thanks for letting me know about these. I’m definitely going to order one and be the sassiest chef/cleaner on the block from now on. :-)

Oh, these aprons do look fun! I’ve seen the standard ones in the shopping centers, and even the common chef ones, but these are sensationally feminine!

I think I’d be like you at first; they look too gorgeous to get splatters of oil or bolognaise sauce on. Maybe I’d wear a daggy one to cook, and then put on the nice one. :-)

Hi Diana:
You have been in my sunroom and you know that I use aprons to dress my dress mannequin! I have several that I use seasonally and my favorite is a very fun vintage one from one of my fav stores: ANTHROPOLOGIE. Also I have a plain yellow and white gingham half-apron that has a pocket I fill with flowers, feathers or whatever strikes me.
Your blog is looking SWEET by the way.
