Here at The Devine Home the holiday season means entertaining. We love to have family, friends and neighbors over when it’s cold out side.
The winter months on the North Coast are the perfect time to host open houses, game nights, progressive dinners, movie nights, etc., since the sometimes nasty weather allows for very little else!
We hosted Thanksgiving here at our Cottage In The Woods, and next on our party list is our annual “End of the Lane” Christmas Open House. We invite our neighbors over for a casual yuletide gathering.
Since we only have seven households to invite, I like to splurge on making our invitations special and memorable. My friend Becky of The Lakeshore Stamper is a talented card maker so I turn to her for this important task.
The invitation sets the stage for the party. It tells your guests something about what to expect before they even get to the party. Becky made our invites for last year’s party. They were so adorable! In fact, one guest already had plans for the evening but when she got our invitation, she cut short her previously-scheduled event in order to attend our open house!
This year, I wanted invites that had an old-fashioned feel to them. I wanted the brown/red color scheme. I think Becky totally out did herself this year! LOVE the invites!
Our Christmas open house will be a soup party. We are having it on a Sunday evening where we shouldn’t have a lot of competition from other holiday parties.
I plan on keeping it very simple – just three soup choices, salad and desserts. This way I hope I will be able to enjoy the party instead of having to “work” it.
We’ll have a fire going, my favorite Christmas music softly playing. I’ll have a holiday coloring sheet and crayons to occupy the kids.
A great resource I found for party planning is Pottery Barn’s “Party Planner”. Have you seen it?
It has ideas for hosting everything from movie night to a simple dinner party to a New Year’s get together. They have invitation templates, music play lists from iTunes, recipes, and even a printable guide. So, if you need a little party planning inspiration, this is a nice place to start!

Those are SO cute! Now that I am home “full time”….I’ve had so much fun catching up on blogging, cleaning and cooking (not necessarily in that order)!
Hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving!
