I wanted to share a few photos of a master bedroom makeover I’ve been creating with a client. I have worked with these clients for the past two of years. We have completely remodeled the house (which I had staged for sale for another client)! The entire house had been very traditionally decorated but my clients are more contemporary in their style.
Their master was inspired by a makeover on Rate My Space called, Minimal Luxe Style. My client called me saying she had seen this episode and wanted it for her bedroom.
I wish we had before pics to show you but her husband was anxious to get going on the project (we’ll hunt some down so you can see where we started). Using the Rate My Space room as inspiration did not mean copying the room exactly. It meant interpreting the style by 1) identifying the features my client loved and then 2) adapting those features to her space.
I selected the wall color to coordinate with fabric we were using for custom-made drapes. It’s SW6205 Comfort Gray
from Sherwin Williams. It’s a blue gray and has a sophisticated, chic feel – perfect for our luxe makeover.
My client wanted the “luxe” to reflect a Hollywood glamor element, so we incorporated some classic bling with the fabulous crystal chandelier and more crystal repeated on the nightstand lamps.
The gentle curves of the light fixture are repeated in the shape of the two nightstands and a larger dresser (not seen in this photo) and on the chair to the left of the bed.
Although she was not crazy about the bed frame, it was not in the budget to replace it. I had suggeted making a slip cover but as the project progressed, she grew to like it again. It adds a strong lineal element which helps create the “minimal”, clean line aspect of the Rate My Space room.
The room is flanked on either side by large windows overlooking the woods. To bring the “outside in” we went “shopping” for branches in her yard. She sprayed them and hung a few crystals from the branches! It’s a perfect way to fill the dark corners and frame that focal wall. We had discussed putting something above the bed but like how that empty space frames the beautiful lines of the chandelier.
Still in progress is this reading corner (below right). We had been talking about this Lowden Chair from Arhaus for more than a year and were thrilled to finally find the perfect place for it in this fabulous master suite.
My client will “shop” for branches to pop in the corner and will add a few silver framed mirrors to the wall to complete this nook.
Before the makeover, my client never wanted to be in the bedroom. Now she can’t believe this is her room! Both she and her husband are thrilled with the results. Classic, sophicated, luxurious, comfortable and, dare I say “devine?”!

Love it… I think the bed is fabulous!! Great job!!
I was there yesterday to see how progress was coming (I had not been there since the chair had been delivered.) It really does feel like a luxury suite. You know you’ve done good when even the husband says he loves it!
Wonderful! Thanks for showing your work! I’m very inspired.

Oh.. I wish I had asked. Do you do the painting etc as well? Or do you leave that decision up to your client as per how far she’d like to utilize your help?
I’m doing a before and after to a friend’s home as a training ground. So fun!

Hey Donna
While I paint at my own house, I do not paint for clients. I have a team of professionals that range from painters to plumbers and everyone in between and can recommend them to clients if needed.
;o)
Lovely.
What a beautiful room you’ve created for your client. I love it all! Comfort Gray is one of my favorite colors to have on hand for suggestions. I’ve seen that color strip in a showhouse & it was gorgeous.
Thanks!
I would always want to spend time in the bedroom. Absolutely love it. I’m going to look at this color for our new master bedroom. Looks exactly like what I was thinking about. Thanks. Great job!
