On our trip through Lowcountry, we stopped at perhaps my favorite place – Beaufort (pronounced Bew-fort), South Carolina. Beaufort is about half way between Charleston and Savannah and reminds me of the porridge in Goldie Locks and the three bears. Remember how the one was too hot, another too cold but one bowl of porridge was just right? Well, that’s Beaufort in my opinion. It’s just right.
One of my favorite discoveries on this past trip was a shop called “M Home Decor & Garden” (although the signage outside the shop just said “M”).
The shop is in the heart of the downtown area on Bay Street. The store had such a nice mix of items and I loved the different textures she had. Beaufort is on the water and this store had a kind of seaside feel to it.
For a lovely afternoon, stop at Plums and enjoy the best shrimp salad sandwich and then stroll along Bay, popping into the shops which are independently owned – no chain stores which is so wonderful and refreshing!
If your plans call for being in the Savannah/Charleston area, a daytrip to Beaufort is a perfect way to spend your vacation. Make sure to spend time on the porch swings in the park by the bay. It’s wonderful.
