rainbow row charleston sc jeff pittman 300x240 Doin The CharlestonI am so excited to be leaving today for Charleston, SC! It’s fall home tour season, the very best time of the year in my beloved south.

My husband loves Charleston {it was the first vacation we ever took together after getting engaged} but he has never been there at this time of the year. I am thrilled to be his date! If the forecast is correct, we should have beautiful weather for most of our trip.

The annual tour of homes is organized by the Preservation Society of Charleston’s annual event.  lagare street Doin The CharlestonOn Thursday evening we will tour the homes of Lagare Street.  This tour features some of Charleston’s most significant houses built in the early 19th century. Magnificent Charleston single houses, servants quarters, kitchen and carriage houses exhibit interiors reflecting modern lifestyles, yet respecting the character and significance of the city’s historic architecture.

upper south battery Doin The CharlestonOn Friday night evening we will tour the homes of the Upper South Battery. This tour includes many of the city’s finest examples of residential architecture from the Neoclassical Revival Period of the early twentieth century. Houses along South Battery that once fronted on the marshes and river are now one block inland. The houses on South Battery and Murray Blvd provide the city with a continuum of residential architecture that spans three centuries.

Fall & spring home tours are one of my greatest sources of design inspiration. We’ll be in Charleston for three days and then we’ll go to Beaufort for their kitchen tour. We’ll round the trip out with a couple of days in Savannah. I’ve scheduled an architectural/garden/history tour for us while there.

I’m taking my camera with a 2 gig memory card and can’t wait to share the treasures I find!

See y’all later!

Sounds like fun. If it weren’t for the Indian Summer we are having, I’d be a bit envious Oh, who am I kidding? I am envious!
Have a great time.

Girl, I know it! It’s rainy and cold {even freezing} for two weeks and the day we leave it’s sunny and 65! I can only take comfort in the fact that tonight at 11:oo hubby and I were having a drink outside and it felt like we were inside. ;o)

I will be incredibly envious if you get to eat breakfast at the Hominy Grill. They make the only perfect omlette(s) I’ve ever had, and the biscuits are other-worldly.
