“Devine Finds” For Design Inspiration

Happy 2010!

It’s a New Year and I’m so excited to have 12 brand spankin’ new months for creating a fabulous home! It’s funny how a new calendar year makes me feel like I have a clean slate, a fresh start – silly I know but true!

Over the Christmas/New Year holiday I got caught up on the huge stack of store catalogs sitting in my office. While most of them were the “same old, same old” I did find some new items that I just love! So today I’m sharing some of the “devine finds” I discovered within those pages that fill me with energy and inspiration to work on my home!

Typewriter Key Plaques

New from Ballard Designs, I think these typewriter key plaques are “devine” and so versatile.  Don’t you love how these take vintage and make it feel modern?  They are 12″ in diameter with the trim and letter being dimensional.

I think this look could be created for a lot less than the $49 price tag {per plaque, yikes!}. Most craft stores carry round wooden pine plaques {you might even be able to find something similar at your local big box store.}

Base coat a pine rounder in cream and apply a bit of brown on top to antique it. Print out the letters of your choice on your compter and transfer to the plaque. Paint the letter black along with a border and voila - the look for less!

My next divine find comes from Pottery Barn, they always have such good accessories, don’t they? This is another item that would be SO easy to make yourself and for ALOT less than the $99 price tag. Seriously, the dollar stores carry these kind of plain white patters, so how easy would it be to make your own by applying a coat or two of chalkboard paint?

Best of all, by making your own you can select a chalkboard paint color that coordinates with your decor if you want to get beyond black! Hudson Paint carries a large selection of chalkboard paint that can help you personalize your creation.
