Well I am sad to say that I did not get to Ohio’s largest yard sale, my husband had other plans. We went to the Cleveland Browns scrimmage downtown at the stadium – it was a lot of fun.
Afterwards we went shopping to find patio furniture for our back deck. We went to a lot of stores hoping to find patio furniture prices slashed for the end of season sale.
It was slim pickin’s. I guess we are kind of late in the season {isn’t that depressing since it’s only August?} We have settled on a pretty set from Lowes that we are picking up tonight.
This is what our deck has pretty much looked like since we bought our Cottage In the Woods three years ago this month.
It was stained with a tan-ish color which never made a lot of sense to me. Nothing on the house was tan. I always like to coordinate a deck with trim color.
“Entertainment Destination”
So this year, we gave it a bit of a mini-makeover with a new coat of stain. The railings are now white and the deck floor is gray {which I thought was going to be a darker but it is very light}.
We had speakers put outside when we had the new sound system installed a couple of weeks ago. So now we can having music playing outside.
With these small changes I feel like we are finally starting to make the deck more of a destination. Up until now we have really not used it much. My in-laws love sitting on out there when they visit. Our deck overlooks a beautiful pond and has a very tranquil quality about it.
Speaking of in-laws, they arrive on Thursday which is a large part of our motivation for getting the deck decked out! We are having friend over on Saturday for drinks and appetizers and if the weather coorperates like it is supposed to, the deck will host its first gathering.
Of course, the new patio furniture will be the biggest part of transforming the deck into our “entertainment destination.” That comes tonight . . . so stay tuned for Part Two & after pics!
BTW, if you have given your deck a makeover, I’d love to read about it! Post a comment or link to your blog post about it. Thanks!
