SYMPTOMS: The skies are gray for days on end and loom suffocatingly overhead. The thermometer doesn’t register above freezing. You feel trapped in the few places you haunt: the house, work, gym, church, even the grocery store.
DIAGNOSIS: Cabin Fever! You may remember seeing one of the worst cases of cabin fever ever recorded in the movies in The Shining . . . Jack had it bad!
Here’ a fun and creative way to help you endure the weeks that remain of “Cabin Fever Season”!
Virtual Trips
My sister Alana recently took a two-day virtual trip to Hawaii with her brood of four kids and they had a blast!
Her house was freezing in the unusually harsh cold that froze the greater Atlanta, Georgia area. She was cold, going stir crazy, getting DEpressed and the kids were on her last nerve!
Out of desperation she told them there were all going to take a trip to Hawaii! She got out some tropical decorations she’d bought for her daughter’s birthday party, they played some island music (check the music stations on your TV), the kids did the limbo, they made a “beach bonfire” in the fireplace for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. They had so much fun the decided to spend a second day and evening in Hawaii!
The “trip” came out of desperation but it will make a lasting memory for her kids. Best of all there was no luggage, plane delays or traffic jams to deal with. So if you’ve got cabin fever, try a virtual trip. The mind is a power thing give – use it to your advantage!
Other Ideas 4 Virtual Trips
Bora Bora
The internet is a wonderful way to harness the power of imagination as well. I love visiting the Hotel Bora Bora in Tahiti. I can put on a CD of relaxing tropical music and desk lamp and travel to Tahiti and imagine staying in one of those over-the-water bungalows.
The Louvre, Paris France
Enjoy masterpieces of the art world on a virtual tour of the Louvre collections. It may be cold in Paris but the work of the masters will warm your soul. Locally, if you’re in the Cleveland area, attend the Home and Garden Show this weekend. The theme is “The Romance of France.”

The kids will be so excited to know they made their Aunt Dee Dee’s blog! It really was a fun weekend. I’ll let you know when we make the next virtual trip.
