It’s the simple things in life that can give you such pleasure, like finding creative uses for common household items. My latest little brainstorm is using an old drinking ladel to hold a bar of soap at the sink in our newly-remodeled laundry/mud room.
We just tacked a nail into the backsplash to hold the ladel. I found the round bar of soap at Pier One. My grandparents in West Virgina still use to this day a ladel like this for drinking water out of the tap. My ladel reminds me of them every time I see it.
I cleaned the inside of the ladel up a bit with steel wool and then sprayed a couple of coats of clear poly on the inside so that it doesn’t rust.
I love this little touch – the ladel makes such a unique soap holder and works perfectly with the throw back feeling I want to create in the room.
I know you all are SO are creative – tell us how you’ve used a common household item in a creative way in your home decorating!
