14 300x225 An Afternoon In Covered Bridge Country

Welcome Fall Nesters from Melissa’s Inspired Room nesting party! I hope this “virtual tour” of covered bridge country inspires you for the fall like it has me!

Today, I actually had an afternoon with no appointments! Since it was such a beautiful day, I planned a spur-of-the-moment get away with my hubby.

He was able to leave the office with my less-than-24-hours-notice but asked that next time I give him more of a heads up. (Umm, what part of “spur of the moment” doesn’t he understand?)

We went to Ashtabula County – there are 17 covered bridges in the 04 300x225 An Afternoon In Covered Bridge Countryarea – we look our time and saw five. (Saving more for a later trip during fall foliage season)!

Our first stop was to picnic at our favorite winery, South River. They are just a few miles from the first covered bridge and have a wonderful pavilion and large area for spreading picnic blankets. While we were there I peeked in on the grapes – they will soon be ready for harvesting.

After the winery, we drove to our first bridge (seen above) and stopped at the15 225x300 An Afternoon In Covered Bridge Country park along the river’s edge where we spread out our blanket (it was such a relaxing afternoon that my DH got in two little cat naps!)  DH read a book aloud (before snoozing) and I snapped pics . . . I love trees; they are so interesting. Just look at the texture of the peeling bark; the colors make a perfect fall color palette!

Our favorite bridge was the one below – great architecture. 27 300x225 An Afternoon In Covered Bridge Country

On our drive we came across this picturesque roadside farm stand (below). Doesn’t it look like something right out of central casting?21 300x225 An Afternoon In Covered Bridge Country

They had beautiful produce; we bought the first apple cider of the season. Their peaches were picture perfect.19 300x225 An Afternoon In Covered Bridge Country . . I just couldn’t resist snapping a photo. The owners were amused. We are so blessed to live in a country where we have so much!

Well, I hope you have enjoyed our little tour. I know my creative juices got an injection of inspiration. . . perfect for all my fall consultations!

Have a fabulous fall Labor Day weekend and try not to labor too much. Life is too short to work on the weekends!

What gorgeous photos! My cousins live in Ashtabula Cty. and it was so gorgeous last October. I can’t wait to visit them next month to revel in the glory of the autumn colors!
