In the weeks (and sadly, the years) to come I’ll be sharing the adventures we’re having as we transform the house we bought into our dream home. After more than a year of looking for our the first house to buy together as a married couple, my husband and I found our “Cottage in the Woods” so named by the original owners. It’s a little yellow Cape-Cod-style home that sits nestled on a five “aker wood” as Pooh would say.
Currently we are in the throes of redoing the kitchen and utility room. Ugh! Any of you who have lived thru remodeling jobs know what it’s like. I’m not complaining, mind you, as I’m getting a whole new kitchen and mud/laundry room. . . I’m just saying ;o)
Here’s a photo that shows how the kitchen looked when we bought it two summers ago. It was built between 1991-1993 yet the color scheme was a very 1970s blue and pink. It demonstrates how we rarely move beyond our color comfort zone – even when it’s out of style.
Yes, the house was dated, but it has “good bones”. The changes we’re making are mostly cosmetic. For the past three weeks we have been emptying out the kitchen in stages . . . by this weekend only the island and sink will be left.
Needless to say we won’t be having company over any time soon with the house looking like this:
I’m trying to be Martha in a temporary kitchen set up in the dining room with a microwave, toaster oven and hot plate. It’s so much fun! ;o)
I’ll post photos of the destruction, progress tomorrow. ;o)
